Joby Aviation has acquired Avionyx
The growth and expansion of the company come after Joby Aviation Inc. recently acquired Avionyx, which is based in the United States and is currently developing an electric vertical takeoff and landing ( eVTOL ) aircraft. The intention is that it will become a fast, quiet, and convenient service air taxi model for use in cities around the world. This project, which will include the participation of Avionyx, has been in development for more than ten years. Over this period, it has completed more than 1,000 test flights. As a result, the five-seat aircraft that Joby has piloted has demonstrated top speeds of more than two hundred mph. Additionally, it has a range of more than 150 miles on a single charge.
Avionyx is a player in the Costa Rican aerospace industry
“ Avionyx has been active in the Costa Rican aerospace industry for more than 15 years. During this time, the country’s human resources talent has fulfilled the promise of delivering high-quality, world-class software engineering services to clients in the aeronautical industry around the world. Our reputation has grown thanks to Costa Rican talent, and we look forward to making Costa Rica the number one place to serve the software needs of aerospace companies,” said Larry Allgood, CEO of Avionyx.
The new positions that the company will create over the next two years will span numerous and varied projects as the company continues to help customers develop and certify systems for fixed-wing, rotary-wing, and eVTOL aircraft.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Paula Bogantes, has recently commented that “Costa Rica, as a reference country in specialized human resources, celebrates the decision of the Avionyx company to double its facilities and create more than fifty new jobs. This growth demonstrates how the Costa Rican aerospace industry is increasingly inserting itself into productive value chains in this emerging national sector of the economy. In Costa Rica, design, manufacturing, marketing, and maintenance processes talent stand out. From Comex, the Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Trade, we urge Costa Ricans to apply for these excellent new opportunities to acquire new knowledge and be part of this attractive and innovative industry.”
Software engineering talent in Costa Rica is world-class
Avionyx has 100% of its engineering department in Costa Rica. This facility focuses on developing, reviewing, analyzing, and verifying software for the certification of avionics systems. This is done following the regulations and standards of the Federal Administration of United States Aviation (FAA). The company’s facilities in Costa Rica serve US clients in that country’s aerospace industry.
For his part, Jorge Sequeira, General Director of CINDE, said: “We congratulate Avionyx for its growth in Costa Rica. This consolidates the prominent position of the Costa Rican aerospace industry as a hub to promote smart manufacturing. Furthermore, Costa Rican talent can develop integrated software for highly regulated industries such as aviation to support industry activities. As a result, exports from the knowledge-intensive services sector, such as the Costa Rican aerospace industry, reached almost $7 billion in 2021. This clearly demonstrates Costa Rica’s dynamism and capacity to support the most complex processes where various advanced industries converge.”
In addition, Sequeira added: “Our country enjoys a strategic position and is reliably at the service of companies that require innovation. This quality is a vital component for competitiveness and the strict certification processes required by the aerospace industry.”
Avionyx will add more than fifty positions over the course of the next two years. These posts will range from university intern profiles to senior staff seeking to project themselves professionally in fields such as electrical engineering, computer engineering, and aerospace engineering. The country’s superior educational system can provide the human resources required to grow the Costa Rican aerospace industry. Currently, the company has eighty team members in Costa Rica
